I was sexually abused as a child, says Anoushka Shankar

Legendary Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar’s daughter musician Anoushka Shankar has admitted that she suffered “groping, touching and verbal abuse” when she was a child.

In a video to support a global campaign to end violence against women - One Billion Rising – the 31-year-old said that she was abused for several years by a man whom her parents trusted impicitly, the BBC reported.

Shankar went on to appeal to people to support the campaign in memory of the 23-year-old Delhi gang-rape victim, in the video, recorded in her London home.

Shankar added that she was taking part in the One Billion Rising movement for the child in her who she thinks will not recover from what happened.
