President Donald Trump administration has reminded Pakistan that Mumbai attack mastermind and banned Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist leader designated by both the United Nations and the United States,

The US reaction came after the Pakistani court ordered his release from detention.

"The US is aware of media reports that Pakistan (court) ordered release of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed from house arrest," a State Department spokesperson told PTI.

The State Department also expressed its displeasure over the potential release of Saeed from house arrest.

The banned Jamaat- ud -Dawah head, who carries a bounty of USD 10 million announced by the US for his role in terror activities, has been under detention since January this year.

In May 2008, the United States Department of the Treasury designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. The Jamat- ud -Dawah (JuD) was declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the United States in June 2014.

On Tuesday, Pakistan's Punjab government had sought a three-month extension in his detention saying, the country might face sanctions from the international community if Saeed is released from house arrest.

"We plead the board not to order release of Saeed as Pakistan may face international sanctions," an official requested.\

He also told the board that the Federal Finance Ministry has 'some important evidence' against Saeed to justify his detention. He further informed that Saeed had been detained on the basis of intelligence agencies' reports.
