Former US President George W Bush has asked his supporters to raise funds for his younger brother Jeb Bush's presidential campaign.

"My brother will be a tremendous President. He is a proven leader with an optimistic outlook and a clear, conservative agenda for America's future," the elder Bush wrote in an email to his supporters on Thursday.

"I rarely send emails like this, but I wanted to make sure I asked for your support on behalf of my brother, Jeb. This is a consequential time in our nation's history, and we need a strong leader," Bush added. "Jeb took on tough challenges as Florida's Governor and delivered results. I know he will do the same as President," the former US President wrote. He was the US President from 2001 to 2009.

If elected, Jeb Bush would be the third president from the Bush family, his brother being the second. Their father George H W Bush was the US President from 1989 to 1993. According to The Washington Post, George H W Bush, Barbara Bush and George Bush will appear for a fund raising event in support of Jeb Bush in October.
