Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of black money during the ninth G-20 Summit meeting on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged every jurisdiction, especially tax havens, to provide information for tax purposes in accordance with treaty obligation. Narendra Modi said, "The new global standard on automatic exchange of tax information would be instrumental in getting information of unaccounted money hoarded abroad and enable its eventual repatriation. Close global coordination is important not just for addressing the challenge of Black money, but also security issues like terrorism, drug trafficking and smuggling."  PM Modi also unveiled a statue of the iconic freedom fighter in Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland.

PM Narendra Modi unveils Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Brisbane

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi, who is in Brisbane to attend the ninth G-20 Summit, said he was grateful to Brisbane's Lord Mayor Graham Quirk for extending full cooperation and respecting the feelings of the Indian Diaspora. “On the 2nd of October was born not a human being, but an entire generation. There is a discussion going on in India that I seem to be mentioning Mahatma Gandhi a lot after coming to power. I have always believed in the philosophy and ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi even before I became the chief minister of Gujarat,” Modi told people who had gathered in large numbers to witness the event. G20 leaders vow to boost global GDP by over US $2 trillion

Leaders of the world's 20 developed and emerging economies today vowed to boost global GDP by over US $2 trillion over next five years by investing in infrastructure and increasing trade, aimed at boosting the global recovery amid geopolitical tensions. In a three-page statement issued at the end of G20 Summit here, the world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama, said, "raising global growth to deliver better living standards and quality jobs for people across the world is our highest priority." G-20 Summit: PM Narendra Modi raises issue of black money

Raising the issue of black money during the G-20 Summit meeting here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stated that India supports all initiatives which facilitates automatic exchange of information among nations that ultimately helps in tracing unaccounted money and its eventual repatriation.

In series of tweets, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin's twitter handle revealed Prime Minister Modi's intervention on issues of tax evasion at the G-20 Summit.

"We support new global standard on automatic exchange of information. It would be instrumental in getting information at unaccounted money hoarded abroad and enable its eventual repatriation. PM Narendra Modi to highlight black money issue at G20

As India attempts to unearth black money stashed abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will push for stepping up global cooperation against the key issue of cross border tax avoidance and evasion at the G20 summit starting on Wednesday. Modi, who is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Australia in 28 years since Rajiv Gandhi in 1986, arrived here on a five-day trip to Australia on the second leg of his 10-day three-nation tour. PM Narendra Modi arrives in Australia to attend G-20 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived  in Australia on the second leg of his three-nation tour during which he will attend the annual G20 summit and hold bilateral talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott. The Prime Minister is on a 10-day visit of Myanmar, Australia and Fiji to attend key multilateral summits and undertake bilateral meetings. Before his departure from India, Modi had said the importance of global cooperation against black money will be a "key issue" he will highlight at the G20 summit. "A key issue for me would be to highlight the importance of international cooperation against black money," Modi had said in a pre-departure statement. Read more
