Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has overtaken Queen Victoria as the UK's longest serving monarch.

The Queen, who has reigned for more than 63 years, is one of the most important and influential women in the world and has visited more countries compared to any other king or queen in the world. Here are ten things you would be surprised to know about her: 

1. Queen Elizabeth is fluent in French and does not require any interpreter. She, in fact, often uses the language to address audiences and also speaks in French during her state visits.


2. She has been named as one of the most glamorous women in the world by British Vogue. The Queen is often in news for her colourful trench coats and her perfectly colour coordinated bags and hats. 

3. She is also the most well-travelled monarch in the world having visited 116 different countries. Guess what? She does not even require a passport and presumably is not subjected to security frisking!

4. The Queen's words were literally deposited on the moon! She sent a message to the Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969 congratulating them on the first moon landing, her message was actually microfilmed and deposited in a metal container on the moon. 


5.  Her Majesty, technically, owns the whales, dolphins and around 25 species of fishes in the waters around the United Kingdom. These fishes are recognised as "fishes royal" and can be claimed on behalf of the Crown if caught about 5 km off the UK shores. 

6. You cannot 'poke' the Queen on Facebook! She joined Facebook in November 2010 with a page titled the British Monarchy, you can see the posts and videos of the family but you dare not poke them

7. Being the Queen of UK can get you some sweet privileges like getting away with a traffic offence if you want to. The Queen is the only person in Britain who can drive around without a licence or a number plate on her car. 

8.  The Queen has seen 12 British Prime Ministers during her reign including Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillian, Sir Alec Douglas-Home, Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, James Callaghan, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron. She in fact first saw Cameron in a school play where he played a bunny!

9. All the Royal Navy ships in the United Kingdom are named after her and are often referred as HMS, an acronym of  'Her Majesty's Ship'

10. The Queen is extremely fond of her dogs, the corgis. She once demoted a royal footman with a salary cut after he poured whisky in the corgis' water as a prank!
