1. World powers lift Nuclear sanctions on Iran
Iran emerged from years of economic isolation on Saturday when world powers lifted crippling sanctions against the Islamic Republic in return for Tehran complying with a deal to curb its nuclear ambitions.
In a dramatic move scheduled to coincide with the scrapping of the sanctions, Tehran also announced the release of five Americans including Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian as part of a prisoner swap with the United States.Read more here

3. National Conference throws its hat in the ring for government formation in J&K
Even as the stalemate over government formation continues, the main opposition National Conference (NC) has thrown its hat in the ring expressing readiness to consider any proposal for alliance with the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
NC president Farooq Abdullah said his party has not slammed doors for the alliance (with the BJP) for the government formation in the restive state.
"If any proposal comes (from BJP or Centre), NC will call the working committee meeting to discuss the issue. If such situation arises, we can think over it. We have not slammed our doors. Our doors are open," he told reporters. Read more here
4.Here's what you should look out for at Jaipur Literature Festival 2016
Each year, Namita Gokhale, co-director of the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival (Zee JLF) and an eminent writer, coins a metaphor for the festival she and William Dalrymple started in 2006. In 2011, for instance, she described the four-day festival as literature's 'Woodstock moment'. The following year, she called it 'sahitya ka Kumbh Mela', and the next, a 'bargad ka ped' or banyan tree. And this year, the ninth edition of the festival, has been dubbed 'Kathasaritsagar' or sea of stories.
The appellation, doffing a hat to a classic of ancient Indian literature, is an apt one for the five-day festival which brings together many stories from near and far, by writers and scholars, actors and artists, singers, dancers and creative practitioners of all kinds, both well-known and obscure, from genres popular and serious, emergent and established. In fact, the diversity of the mix Jaipur offers is one of the strengths of the festival, being held this year from January 21-25.Read more here
5. Sorry, but not scared: Kiku Sharda on Gurmeet Singh controversy
Kiku Sharda, the comic who appears as Palak (in drag) on Comedy Nights With Kapil, has been to hell and back. On the night of January 13, he was arrested by the Haryana Police, while he was shooting in Mumbai. The charge? Allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a godman’s followers on a different show on a different channel.
Now safe and at home, Kiku says, “I’ve always been a non-controversial entertainer. I don’t know how or why this happened. But it’s not as if I’ll stop laughing or stop raising laughs. I am sorry but not scared. This one incident has not soured my relationship with comedy. But it has made me question my own beliefs. I’ve never insulted anyone in my life. No one has the right to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.” Read more here
