CIA Director John Brennan has claimed that the battle against the Islamic State (IS) will require both political and military solution, and added that it will be "a long fight".

According to CBS News, Brennan said he believes it will not be resolved anytime soon. He warned that there will be "a lot of bloodshed between now and then", but assured that they will turn back the IS.

Brennan claimed that US intelligence had been taken aback by the IS' strength and that they saw it growing. IS militants have made gains in the recent weeks, capturing Palmyra in Syria and Ramadi in Iraq.
