Photos of three Chinese couples having sex in a hotel room have become an internet hit after the images were leaked online, with netizens claiming two of the men were top county officials.

Earlier this month, about 100 photos of their group sex were leaked online, and some netizens claimed that the two men in the pictures were top officials of Lujiang county.

Wang Minsheng, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Lujiang county and accused of being the organiser of the wife swap sessions, denied the claims Thursday.

The pictures were not real and some people attempted to slander him and other officials, he told the newspaper.

Wang said he suspected the matter was related to a graft case the county was handling.

Many netizens, however, choose to believe a different story -- one of sex and sleaze that many in high offices seem to "secretly enjoy" today.

The police are now searching for those who uploaded the pictures.

Notwithstanding these accusations, sexologists say the accused have a right to protect their privacy.

"What they choose to do in private is their own business," Fang Gang, a sexologist at Beijing Forestry University, told the Global Times.

Fang said that any grudges people may hold against the officials should not be aired in such ways.

Internet users poked fun but defended the officials by saying that at least they are having fun with their own wives and money, and not with their mistresses.

Fang said the law that forbids all sexual activities between three or more people, even when done so privately and between consenting adults, should be abolished.
