China to unveil a 1,200 ton statue of beloved ancient warrior

China is set to unveil its largest statue of much loved Chinese warrior, Guan Yu.

The statue which is located in Jinzhou in Henan, weighs 1,200 tonnes and id 58m tall, according to Mashable.

People's Daily reports, it is the heaviest statue in the world of Yu. A similar but smaller statue of Yu was erected in 2009, in Yu's hometown in the Shanxi province. It measures 61m tall.

In 200 A.D. Yu was a general serving under warlord Liu Bei in the late Eastern Han dynasty. It is believed, he was loyal to friends and is widely known for his bravery and strength on the battlefield.

The Chinese believe in his afterlife,  the general became a god and will provide blessings of good fortune. He is also featured in the Chinese novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
