China hopes new Sri Lankan government will carry ties forward

China has Congratulated the new government in Sri Lanka and expressed the hope that President Maithripala Sirisena will continue to pursue national development goals, as also taking relations between the two nations forward.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei described China and Sri Lanka as neighbors of long-lasting amity.

"The two countries have forged a strategic partnership of cooperation based on sincere mutual assistance and generations of friendship over recent years," the Lanka Page web site quoted Lei, as saying.
