China breaks India's Guinness record for largest umbrella

Previous world record was held by an umbrella with 17.06 meters diameter and 10.97 meters height in India in 2010, the report said.

A giant umbrella of around 23 meters in diameter and 14.4 meters in height made by a Chinese firm on Monday set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest umbrella, breaking record set in India in 2010.

The umbrella company in east China's Jiangxi Province set the new record for creating the world's largest umbrella by unveiling an umbrella of around 23 meters in diameter and 14.4 meters in height. 

The umbrella has been certificated by Chinese representatives of Guinness World Records on Monday in Xingzi County of Jiangxi, the state-run Xinhua news agency quoted the county's publicity department as saying.

The umbrella weighing 5.7 tonnes (5,700 kg) and standing in a plaza covers an area of 418 square meters, it said. Previous world record was held by an umbrella with 17.06 meters diameter and 10.97 meters height in India in 2010, the report said.

According to the website of Guinness World Records, the largest umbrella measures 17.06 m (56 ft) in diameter and is 10.97 m (36 ft) tall and was made by Max New York Life Insurance (India). The umbrella was unveiled at Ishanya Mall at Pune, India, on August 14, 2010. It weighed 2,200 kg.
