A cruise ship which sailed from the Caribbean to the  Mediterranean could be moving ahead to Sweden to be converted into an asylum centre for refugees in Sweden.

According to reports, the Migration Agency in Sweden is in talks with the charter firm US Shipmanagers and could soon sign a deal to bring the ship to a small port near Stockholm.

The accommodation chief at Sweden's Migration Agency, Willis Åberg said, "I am extremely pleased. This means that we are prepared, so that we’re not going to end up in a situation where we can’t offer a roof over people’s heads," the Aftonbladet newspaper reported.

The migration agency is looking to for new beds for the incoming refugees as winter contracts to house the refugees with hundreds of campsites and hotels are about to expire, the Telegraph reported.

The cruise ship is named Ocean Gala and is designed to house around 1,790-passengers. Ocean Gala was first launched in the year 1982 and was one of the world's largest cruise ships at the time.
