In what can be called as an embarrassing moment for the Brazilian President  Jair Bolsonaro's regime, one of his major allies was caught hiding money in his buttocks during a police investigation.

The man in question is Chico Rodrigues, Bolsonaro's deputy leader in the Senate. His house was raided as part of a corruption investigation into the diversion of government funds from tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in the northern state of Roraima on Wednesday.

Around, 30,000 reales ($5,300) in cash were recovered by the Federal officers from his underwear, and also"between his buttocks," according to various Brazilian news portals.

A Brazilian magazine reporting the incident stated that the situation was so "preposterous" that some of the recovered money was "stained with faeces".

However, Rodrigues denied any wrongdoing, stating that his house was "invaded just for doing my job as a legislator".

Bolsanaro also backed Rodrigues, saying that the media was spinning the story in a way to make the government look corrupt.

"This operation is a typical example that there's no corruption in my government, that we're tackling corruption no matter who it is," the Brazilian president said.

This comes as a major setback for Bolsonaro's regime which has always primed itself as an an anti-corruption crusader.
