Former federal minister Lieutenant General (retired) Abdul Majeed Malik has reportedly revealed that former President and military strongman General Pervez Musharraf kept ex-army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in the dark while conducting the Kargil Operation in 1999.

In his book, titled "Ham Bhi Wahan Mojod Thay," Malik claimed that Kayani, who was heading 12 Division that was responsible for guarding Kashmir, opposed the operation later on, reported The Express Tribune.

Malik said that Musharraf alone was entirely responsible for the operation and he did not even brief Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about his plans. He also said that Musharraf had called his chief of general staff from China to seek details of the briefing given to Sharif on Kargil Operation, which was tapped by Indian intelligence agencies. Malik noted in the book that it was a "grave breach of security" to discuss such a sensitive issue on a phone call.
