Swiss football club Basel ruined Jose Mourinho's Champions League return with Chelsea with an impressive 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Mourinho's previous Chelsea stint had reportedly ended ignominiously six years ago after he was sacked following a lacklustre 1-1 draw against Norwegian football club Rosenborg in the Champions League.

Dashing Mourinho's hopes of erasing the painful memory, the Swiss champions took advantage of a sloppy display from the Premier League club and emerged victorious in their Group E clash with goals from Mohamed Salah and Marco Streller.

Although Mourinho was disappointed, he, however, insisted that he is not in shock as even though Chelsea has taken a step back in qualification, they still have five games left to finish in the top two.

Praising Basel, Mourinho also said that the club played well, adding that despite having a lot of opportunities, Chelsea could not create many chances as emotionally they are still immature.

The report mentioned that the loss is Chelsea's first Champions League group stage home defeat since 2003.

Mourinho has already overseen Chelsea's worst start to a Premier League season for a decade and, just five days after a 1-0 defeat at Everton, he has now suffered a second successive loss and one of the more embarrassing setbacks of his illustrious career, the report added.
