Almost 40 people have died in the Islamic State (IS)-held areas in northeastern Syria as the country's planes and helicopters dropped barrel bombs, said activists.

According to BBC, barrel-bombs made of drums of explosives were dropped on Thursday and overnight near Aleppo. The government air raids have increased in the recent past, said activists.

Since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in 2011, around 2,00,000 people have died. Almost 3.2 million people have fled from Syria and 7.6 million have been displaced inside the country.
