Keeping his loyalty to President Donald Trump, ousted top strategist Steve Bannon said he is 'going to war' against the enemies of the president from outside the White House as he returned to his former home at Breitbart News.

"If there's any confusion out there, let me clear it up: I'm leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America," the far-right firebrand told Bloomberg News in his first comments since his departure was announced on Friday.

Breitbart, the provocative right-wing news outlet which Bannon headed before joining Trump's team, said he had returned as executive chairman last afternoon and had chaired the company's evening editorial meeting.

"The populist-nationalist movement got a lot stronger today," said Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow.

"Breitbart gained an executive chairman with his finger on the pulse of the Trump agenda."
