Recently  the photo of a man walking with his deceased wife bundled in carpet on his shoulder, by the side of his crying daughter, had gone viral. As fate would have it, the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa chanced upon the news. He was moved by the predicament that the father-daughter duo were in, not to mention the mental agony.

As a gesture of goodwill, he extended financial support to the family.

As reported by Gulf Digital News, His Royal Highness "read about the man, who carried his wife’s body for 12kms after the hospital where she died allegedly failed to provide an ambulance for her to be sent back to their village."

Dana Majhi's wife, had died of tuberculosis at a district hospital in Bhawanipatna district of Odisha. Unable to get an ambulance, Dana was compelled to carry his wife's body to his village for the last rites.

After he walked 10km, people intervened and an ambulance was brought in. The Prince contacted the Indian embassy in Bahrain for the humanitarian gesture, but the embassy is yet to receive an official statement.

“The Bahraini Prime Minister responded to media reports on the incident and has made an offer for humanitarian assistance. He has decided to make a contribution but we have not yet received any official confirmation regarding the amount of money or when it will be made,” sources in the Indian embassy in Bahrain said, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

No formal declaration has been made yet as to what the amount donated would be, but just for the record, 1 Bahraini Dinar equals INR 178.
