JK Rowling has sued Daily Mail for publishing a story about her, which she believes is damaging to her reputation.

The 'Harry Potter' author is putting the case against Associated Newspapers for the story which the Daily Mail published on its website on 28 September 2013, the Independent reported.

She has claimed unspecified damages over the piece headlined "How JK Rowling's sob story about her past as a single mother has left the churchgoers who cared for her upset and bewildered".

According to the Press Gazette, the UK publication took the story from the website Gingerbread, where the author had written about being life before she was famous.

Rowling's legal team said that the article gave a false account of her time as a single mother in Edinburgh and has injured her reputation and caused her embarrassment and distress.
