Rivals on field and friends off it. This is a story one usually associates with sportspersons, celebrities, but rarely politicians. In today's day and age, it's rare to see political rivals become friend, given that sometimes rivalry can result in personal attacks.

However, a strange and unlikely friendship has slowly developed between former US President George W Bush and former First Lady Michelle Obama. The unlikely pair have often been photographed together during formal events. When Obama embraced Bush at the opening ceremony for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture last September, the photo of their warm interaction went viral.

Recently, Bush, who was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, confessed to his fondness of Michelle Obama. While speaking of former US President Barack Obama, Bush joked, "Barack doesn't hug like Michelle."

Adding to the reason behind the friendship, Bush in an interview added, "“She kind of likes my sense of humor. Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like,” says Bush, in an interview to launch his first art book and new exhibit, Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, a collection of his paintings of post-9/11 war veterans.

The pair are often seated next to each other during events, including the interfaith memorial service for the victims of the Dallas police shooting in July, last year's funeral for former first lady Nancy Reagan and the 2015 commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the historic civil rights march in Selma, Alabama.

Bush wins the internet after interview with Kimmell

Unlike US President Donald Trump, George W Bush is able to poke fun at himself. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, President Bush admitted that he hadn't seen Alec Baldwin's Saturday Night Live impersination, but said he was aware of Will Farrell making fun of him. He said he found the jokes hilarious, and went on to troll himself, much to the delight of the audience.
