The screengrabs of the alleged racist and insensitive Facebook posts by an American diplomat couple who was deported back to the US last week have gone viral on social media. Wayne and Alicia May worked at the US embassy in New Delhi and were deported in retaliation for the U.S. expulsion of Indian envoy Devyani Khobragade.

Angry Indians shared the posts on social networking sites, slamming the duo for their offensive comments.

In a Facebook post, Alicia May, referring to the rising incidents of sexual violence in India, called vegetarians rapists. She posted: It’s the vegetarians that are doing the raping, not the meat eaters — this place is just so bizarre. And then specified, “Applies only to Indians, not westerners!”

Comparing her pet dog to her Indian gardener, Alicia stated that her dog had a better diet: Paco definitely weighs more than the mali! A bit more protein in Paco's diet.

Other posts by her and her family made fun of cows, a sacred animal for many Indians. Alicia shared a photo of a cow with the title 'stupid cow.' Her connection on the networking site replied, “You just insulted their god”. She replied, “Not the first time, not the last!'

Their daughter, Brianna May's blog (that has been made offline, a cached copy is available) also makes fun of cows, “Cows are more sacred than anything (duh) and so it is worse to hit a cow with your car than a person, is also doing the rounds”.

She shared in another post: Many of the Indian men are very ‘grabby’ and sexually deprived and they think foreign women are a mysterious prize for them to have.

On Tuesday, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters, “Those comments absolutely do not reflect U.S. Government policy, nor were they made on any official US Government social media account.” Online reactions:

f03nix on Reddit: Well, although a lot of it has some sad truth to it but a lot of it seemed like it was written by someone with a "superior" standard. We have more brains than vegetarians, vegetarians rape people, etc ... dude, I am not even a vegetarian and I find it cringe worthy.
