500 families evacuated amidst Islamic State, Iraqi army clashes in Mosul

More than 500 civilians were evacuated in the last 24 hours from Western Mosul amidst clashes between Islamic State terrorists and the Iraqi Army.

Many of the civilians also suffered serious injuries while fleeing the Old City district, Anadolu quoted Colonel Ahmad Hashim as saying on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Iraqi army recaptured two more neighborhoods in western Mosul from the ISIS terrorist group.

However, the terrorist group still controls a number of neighborhoods where lakhs of civilians are still stuck in residences.

The Iraqi military remains engaged in a wide-ranging campaign, which began last October, to recapture Mosul.

In mid-2014, ISIS overran the city, which now represents the embattled terrorist group's last stronghold in northern Iraq.
