17-yr-old invited to Trump’s swearing-in ceremony

Xenia Lopes, a 17-year-old Indian origin teen has been invited for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to be held on January 20, 2017 in Virginia.

Xenia was the ‘only’ Australian national to be present at the World Global Young Leaders conference held in Europe last year. The conference, which was held in Europe from June 28 to July 7, 2016 focussed on issues faced by global leaders in the 21st century. There were 80 participating countries, scholars from various fields, human rights leaders, and parliamentarians at this conference.

Currently studying at Hornsby Girls English High School, Sydney, Australia, Xenia ranked 99.2 at the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Xenia is also involved in various community activities in Australia and excels in her academic fields.

Her father, Vinay Lopes, a senior executive with HSBC in Sydney is a graduate of Mumbai University and her mother Neelima, completed schooling from St Anthony Convent school in Vasai and later completed her graduation from St Gonsalo Garcia college in Vasai. Both started their life in a small village, Girij, in Vasai.

The family later shifted to Hong Kong and are currently residing in Sydney.

Here in Mumbai, the family members of Xenia are very happy after they learned about Xenia being invited at the swearing-in ceremony of US President Donald Trump, “We received a call informing that Xenia is leaving for United States to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the US President, and we are really happy,” said Ivan Pereira, a maternal uncle of Lopes.

“She is excellent in her academics, social work, community development and has always been active in sports,” said Pereira.

“They visit us during the holidays and spend time with us but we feel proud that Xenia always followed Indian culture and was connected to the family back home,” said Pereira.

She has made the Vasaikars proud after she was invited for the ceremony as it requires excellence and continuous hard work to reach at this stage, he added.
