Do you think India should talk to Pakistan without conditions?

Thursday, October 8, 2009 16:55 IST

Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi today sought an intensive dialogue between the South Asian neighbours without conditions.

As the region is facing a serious threat from terrorism, Qureshi said, it makes no sense that instead of pooling resources to fight terrorism, the two countries are squandering them to threaten each other.

His remarks came even as the Pakistani Army and the Inter-Services Intelligence have reportedly been trying to push Taliban militants into Jammu & Kashmir. India has insisted that Pakistan needs to show commitment and progress in taking action against those responsible for the terrorist attack on Mumbai.

Do you think Pakistan's actions against terrorism make it deserving of conditionless talks?

Terrorism is not the handiwork of a few jihadi hotheads. It is Islam that inspires this. The Koran and the Hadith are full of it. What Sammy Huntington called "Islam with its bloody borders" will always be so. As long as Islam is there, terrorism will remain. India should look at its history and think of a "crusade" instead, because now they have slopeheads on their side. Talking to Islam about peace will never bring any result.

Ubaid, I understand that you are a Muslim, have prepared an elaborate response to your statement along with one for "James" from "London". Do you know anything real about what's happening in India or are you quoting al-Jazeera and PTV; is there any other medium you follow? Do let me know cos what you wrote here signifies you either are anti-India or a Pakistani. Either way, you do not deserve a response so please do not distribute half-baked illiterate stories in such forums. If you still want a reply, dare post another one here and see what an Indian (not a very proud one) but one of many who understand things, has to say. Takhliya.

Talks with Pakistan is just wasting our precious time, rather we have to improve our strategy towards terrorism, both from internal and external means. Effective dialogue can't be made with a puppet Pakistan government totally influenced by the state's intelligence and defence wing. Just to satisfy any superpower nations, wasting hard earned-money of citizens by holding useless dialoque with Pakistan is quite a foolish act. If Pakistan changes its attitude to focus on its countrymen's welfare no dialoque is required. Both nations got independence together. After 60 years India has achieved sky heights in almost all departments indigenously and estabilished itself as one of the supreme powers, but Pakistan, other than in the defence sector, has not made remarkable achievements that too with the help of nations like US, China, North Korea. Right from Partition they are believing India as it's only enemy, hence their one aim is to destroy India at any cost. They tried in battle, but all efforts went in vain. So they decided to settle with terrorism which proved to be a profitable business for them. None of the Pakistan governments so far were fit enough to hold effective dialogue. India should concentrate on eliminating internal moles which play a key associate role in influencing terrorism throughout our motherland. India should not bow down to any external forces regarding Kashmir. Distribution of uniform economic conditions throughout india will make the fight against terrorism zero, why waste time by talking with inefficient governing bodies like Pakistan? Indian defence service is capable enough to retaliate to any strike from outside. Hence internal security is the only concern with the second most-populated country. Every Indian must feel responsible for our country's security rather than putting blame on others. Together we can make difference. Pakistan's desire is not Kashmir alone. My prayers for innocent Pakistanis, wish Allah bless all of you with at least peace.

They (Pakistanis ) are not fit persons to talk to. As an engineer/ manager I have worked with these people for years together in the Gulf. Right from childhood they are taught anti-India.

veru_111,
I don't think India should have any dialogue with Pakistan if they insist on unconditional talks. As we know, Pakistan has been playing a double game - one side they are talking of peace and on the other hand, pushing terrorists across to India to create trouble. We should never trust Pakistan.
