An active shooter has been reported inside the campus of the Ohio State University, according to tweets by the university's emergency alert system. Students have been advised to run, hide or fight and follow directions of police on the site. Columbus Fire Department said that at least eight people were taken to hospitals from the University. CNN reported that at least one among them was in a critical condition.
The Columbus campus was on lockdown and on alert.

Ohio State student Wyatt Crosher told CNN he heard what sounded like gunfire and then emergency sirens. Crosher said that he was staying in his dorm room near the scene of the reported shooting.
Ohio State is one of the largest universities in the United States, with roughly 60,000 students on the main campus in Columbus.
