Actor Gauahar Khan, who played a pivotal role in the Amazon Prime Video series 'Tandav', has reacted to the Supreme Court's refusal in giving protection to the show’s actors against arrest. Criminal cases have been lodged in different parts of the country against 'Tandav' maker Ali Abbas Zafar and actors, including Saif Ali Khan, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Reacting to the Supreme Court's decision, Gauahar retweeted one tweet that took a sarcastic jibe at the order and posted a "face with monocle" emoji.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court denied relief to the makers and actors of Tandav, citing that 'right to freedom of speech is not absolute'. A three judge bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan only issued a notice on clubbing of various FIRs registered across the country and asked actor Zeeshan Ayyub and others to move to High Courts for quashing of FIRs or bail in the matters.

Fali S. Nariman submitted that apologies have been made, and despite that several FIRs have been filed in six states. To this, Justice Bhushan replied, "You want the FIRs to be quashed, then why can't you approach the High Courts?"

Earlier this month, Tandav creator Ali Abbas Zafar issued an apology on behalf of the team. He had said, "The cast and crew did not have any intention to offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead. The cast and crew of Tandav take cognizance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologize if it has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments."

Tandav is a nine-episode series about power and politics. The show also stars Saif Ali Khan, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sunil Grover, Kritika Kamra, Sarah Jane Dias, Kumud Mishra, Dino Morea, and Amyra Dastur, among others.
