The third season of Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum has opened with a rating of 1.1, reaching 2.6 million viewers, which is much lesser than what last season’s Bigg Boss hosted by the superstar registered! The 11th season of the controversial reality show opened with a rating of 2.5, reaching 6.3 million viewers. As for Dus Ka Dum 3, its competitors on the 8.30 pm slot have done better. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah in that week has averaged at 2 and on Monday and Tuesday — the days Salman’s show was aired — has got 1.92, while Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala garnered 2.3 ratings.

Considering there was a lot of hype around Dus Ka Dum 3, which was coming back after nine years with Salman returning as the host, too, the ratings haven’t lived up to the expectations. Talking about what has gone wrong with the show, a source from the TV industry says, “The time slot of the show is not right. The channel has a loyal following for KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) at 9 pm, so one doesn’t understand why they slotted Dus Ka Dum at 8.30 pm. In fact, once they even tried to heavily push KBC, by shifting it to 8.30 pm, but the ratings dropped. Secondly, the logic of airing it on Monday and Tuesday instead of the weekend is puzzling. Thirdly, apart from Salman, who’s entertaining and in his element while interacting with the contestants, there is no energy in the show, so it’s not engaging enough.”

Now, we hear, the channel’s think-tank is holding a meeting to find a way forward. It is banking on the show to change its fortunes, especially after they faced problems with Kapil Sharma — first with The Kapil Sharma Show and then on Family Time With Kapil. The second show had to be pulled off owing to the comedian’s ill-health. Says another source, “They may have to make some changes, like adding new elements to make it interesting. They may also air it four days a week, instead of two, to increase the recall value. As of now, they are figuring it out.”

Incidentally, the first season of Dus Ka Dum had not only opened well but also brought the channel in the top three ranking.
