Singer and 'Indian Idol 12' host Aditya Narayan recently opened up on the criticism the singing reality show received for their episode paying tribute to late legendary singer Kishore Kumar.

From netizens to the late singer's son Amit Kumar who attended the special episode as a guest, vented their anger at the show, the judges and the participants for not doing justice to the singer's legacy.

Now, the show's host Aditya Narayan has said that he believes the people are simply frustrated that the IPL (Indian Premier League) has ended and therefore are venting at Indian Idol because the moms and dads have the TV remotes and the younger generation is unhappy.

"I think do-teen hafte pehle IPL band hogaya. Uska saara gussa humpe nikal rahe hain (The IPL ended a couple of weeks ago. They are venting their anger at us). Mummy papas have taken over the remote and they are watching Indian Idol. So our younger generation is unhappy. They don't know where to vent their anger. Including myself, I feel this void too. As soon as it struck 7-7.30, I would get on it. I even made those cricket teams on phone apps. Over the last year and this year too, we are consuming anything that comes on TV a little too fervently. Only because we have too much time right now," Aditya jokingly told Bollywood Spy in an interview.

Aditya added that he has huge respect for Amit ji (Amit Kumar) and said that every time he has graced the show on previous occasions, he has enjoyed it thoroughly. Aditya also said that the team tries to put their best foot forward every time they are shooting an episode.

Meanwhile, music composer Anu Malik too broke his silence on the controversy and told Bollywood Spy, "I would not like to comment on what Amit Kumar said and why he said what he thought. But I will tell you this as a judge, that I have yet to hear better singers on a reality television show. No one has told me to say this to you. Every singer has knowledge of the sure and taal, and is bringing something on the table. They are all very young and in front of these talented aspiring singers, several celebrities like Rekhaji, Neetuji and many top singers have graced the show, and they have to perform live in front of these high-profile guests...and there is no retake, and they have to impress all the judges as well as the guest judges. I don't think it's an easy thing to do. I don't think when I was 17-18 I was so confident as much as these kids are. I would say they are fabulous, they are fantastic and this is the time to encourage each and every singer.

Earlier, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Aditya Narayan had said, "With all due respect to Amitji, it is never easy to honour the legacy of a legend in an hour or two. But we always try our level best to put on a great show especially given the circumstances. Due to the pandemic, we were shooting in Daman with a limited team and crew, limited rehearsals, different set etc. Still week after week we are putting out fresh episodes where most other channels are playing re-runs of their content."

"Amitji has graced the show on multiple occasions and has always praised our contestants as well as our team. This time also he was lavish in his praise. In fact, he was kind enough to share so many personal stories on Kishore da and we enjoyed and cherished each one. If he wasn’t happy with certain aspects of the show he could have just told us during the shoot and we would have been more than happy to try and accommodate his inputs," he had added.
