Season three of True Detective, starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali has finally got a 'go ahead' from HBO.

According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, the show created by Nic Pizzolatto will return for its third instalment, but the production schedule or release dates are still under wraps.

What is now considered as McConaissance, the changed career arc of Matthew McConaughey after playing the lead in the first season of True Detective, was the enticing draw for a lot of people to star in the second season.

Boy, that tanked!

For season three, HBO brought in writer-producer David Milch of Deadwood fame to help Pizzolatto with writing.

The new season is set up in Ozark Mountains which primarily covers Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma in the United States. The Missouri part was recently featured in Netflix money laundering drama by Jason Bateman titled Ozark

The show will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Mahershala Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

The logline of the show reads: "The next instalment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods."

"I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story," Pizzolatto said in a statement.

Pizzolatto is the lone writer except for episode four which is co-written by Milch. He will also direct the show with Jeremy Saulnier of Green Room fame, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
