Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya turns anchor with the music show The Voice and while the actress is upbeat about her first hosting stint, what has her more excited is the fact that Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is judging it. “I am a huge fan of his. During my childhood, my siblings and I remember in my childhood, my sister, brother and I used to play his songs from Taal, Roja and Bombay in the car. When I got to know he is the super guru on the show, I felt this was the best,” beams Divyanka. Yet, whenever she has to interact with the singer-composer, she checks her lines 10 times! “I may be exaggerating, but I hope I don’t offend him in any way. We have some interesting interactions, and on this show, people will know his true personality,” she gushes. Is she inspired to take up singing, now? “I love music, but I am only a good bathroom singer,” she jokes.

The Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actress has hosted award events earlier but feels there is a huge difference between anchoring those and a TV show. “While hosting a show, you are actually the sutradhar holding the entire concept together. You are interacting with people, the contestants and judges. You have to be more lively and have a presence of mind. At award shows you have to stick to the lines, do your bit and get off the stage. This (TV show) is a different ball game altogether,” she elaborates.

But the one thing she finds tough to do on the show is saying good-bye to contestants who don’t make it to the next round. She says, “It hurts to let them go. I feel sad while interacting with them and I say it aloud. When they are singing on stage, not only their family members but even I am praying for them.”

Besides her two TV shows, Divyanka will soon be seen on the digital platform with the web series Cold Lassi And Chicken Masala. “I am loving the fact that I am getting to experiment as an actor in different genres. It’s a lot of time management, but I am not complaining,” she signs off.
