'Not every kind of violence is physical': 'Bigg Boss 13' fame Shefali Jariwala opens up on her separation in 2009

Shefali Jariwala married actor Parag Tyagi in 2014 and the couple has been enjoying their marital bliss to the fullest. Before that, the 'Kaanta Laga' girl was married to Harmeet Singh of Meet Brothers fame from 2004 to 2009. The couple had an ugly divorce and now after many years, Shefali spoke at length about the abuse she faced during her first marriage. Reportedly, the Bigg Boss 13 contestant had even accused him of domestic violence.

Now, during an interaction with Times Now, Shefali stated, "It is very important to understand that you are not being appreciated. Not every kind of violence is physical. There is a lot of mental violence that also happens and you are very unhappy in your life. I think, one of the reasons why I could decide for myself, was because I was independent. I was making my own money."

Shefali added, "The biggest fear in our country is we have is of the society. Divorce is considered to be taboo but the way I have been raised, is to not really care about society but just do what we feel is right.  I could take such steps in my life and had strong support."

Meanwhile, when asked about how she met Parag, Jariwala shared, "I was single at that time.  It was an arranged sort of a date. We really liked each other a lot and hit off instantly. Parag and I are very similar and different in many ways. I think we kind of balance each other out."

The couple had even participated in the dance-based reality show Nach Baliye when they were just dating.
