The world of Sabrina is about to get darker.

A dark occult remake of Sabrina the Teenage Witch is being developed by Warner Bros Television and The CW, as a companion piece to popular murder mystery series Riverdale which airs in the UK on Netflix, reports The Independent.

There's a crossover between the two comics, and fans previously speculated that the character of Sabrina Spellman would join Riverdale.

The character of Sabrina Spellman was made famous by Melissa Joan Hart who starred in the sitcom adaptation of the Archie Comics franchise for seven seasons from 1996 to 2003.

According to some reports, the series is being described as being tonally in the vein of horror classics like Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist.

Riverdale's executive producers - Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater - will join forces for the reimagining.
