Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Redmi Y2 smartphone today at an event in New Delhi at 3PM IST. This smartphone will be the India-variant of the Xiaomi Redmi S2. The launch will be live-streamed via YouTube. The company has also placed a placeholder on its official website.

Just a week before the launch, Xiaomi had posted a new teaser video on the company’s Twitter handle revealing that it will launch a new smartphone on June 7, which will be an Amazon-exclusive. However, the teaser does not reveal what smartphone will be launched. However, the teaser that has been published match the launch invite and emphasises the 'Y', hinting at an India variant of the Redmi Y2.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ display that runs at a resolution of 1440×720 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC that is well known for its performance and battery life.

In the photography department, the Redmi S2 comes with dual camera setup at the back, which includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Both the cameras work in tandem and allow you to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos. For selfies and video calling, there is a 16-megapixel AI-powered front camera which comes with a dedicated portrait mode to add those bokeh effects to your selfies.

To keep things ticking, the smartphone is armed with a 3,080mAh battery. In terms of security, the smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back, and face unlock feature too.

With connectivity options such as 4G LTE with VoLTE, dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS with MIUI 9 skin on top. It also includes iPhone X-like gesture control support, allowing you to disable the on-screen Android navigation buttons, and make the most of the full-screen display.
