Xiaomi also plans special India phone soon

Xiaomi launched two new flagship smartphones this year in the form of Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. While there is still no official word on the launch of these devices in India, a new report claims Xiaomi to be working on another flagship smartphone that the company plans on launching in the country. The report claims the device to carry the code-name “Beryllium,” and also reveals a few specifications and possible features.

XDA-Developers spotted a few firmware files on “Beryllium.” The website suggests the device to be a flagship variant, which will most likely be sporting a Snapdragon 845 SoC. It further believes the device to come to India, because the files mention the MIUI Camera application to come with two methods that link it to the country.

The two Indian related methods are called “isIndiaBeautyFilter” and #getDualCameraWaterMarkFilePathVendor” respectively. The device also carries a build property called “ro.boot.hwc” that returns true only if it’s “India.” All this evidence points out that the device is targeted towards the Indian audience.

Besides the Snapdragon 845, the device is also touted to come with an LCD notch display, with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is also expected to come with dual-rear cameras, and is said to be running on Android 8.1 Oreo OS, likely layered with MIUI 10 on top. Underneath the hood, it is suggested to be powered by a 4,000mAh battery.

That said, XDA-Developers states to have examined the firmware files in March, which means that there is a good possibility that some specifications could have been changed or could have been upgraded to fit the MIUI 10 better. Besides the few specifications, we don’t have any details on a launch date, pricing, and availability of the smartphone. However, you can expect more rumors to surface in the coming few weeks. We’ll keep this space updated as soon as we get more information.
