Vivo has announced the Nex, its true bezel-less smartphone at an event in China. The Nex builds on Vivo’s Apex concept smartphone which features a pop-up selfie camera and true bezel-less design at the front.
The Nex shows the technical advancements that Chinese smartphone makers have achieved in the past few years. At its Shanghai event, Vivo announced that Nex will come in two variants that differ in terms of technology and performance. The smartphone is also the most premium device yet from the Chinese smartphone maker.
Vivo NEX, Nex S Pricing
Vivo Nex and Vivo Nex S are the two smartphones in the Nex series and they come in only one storage variant. The standard Vivo Nex comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage and is priced at RMB 3,898 (around Rs 41,050). The Nex S with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage will retail for RMB 4,498 (around Rs 47,500). There is also a 256GB storage variant of Nex S priced at RMB 4,998 (around Rs 52,700) smartphone will go on sale starting from June 23.
Vivo Nex and Nex S feature a nearly bezel-less design that is not as dramatic as it was on the Vivo Apex. The smartphone still has a chin but it is considerably smaller than what we have seen on other smartphones. The device sports a metal and glass construction with the Nex S borrowing some design cues from Huawei P20 Pro.
Under the hood, the Vivo Nex gets the new octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The Vivo Nex S gets the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and option for 128GB or 256GB storage. Both the smartphones run Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch UI for a gesture-based experience.
The Vivo Nex and Nex S feature a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution of 2316 x 1080 pixels. It sports dual 12-megapixel rear camera with primary sensor having f/1.8 aperture and secondary getting f/2.4 aperture. The camera supports Vivo’s AI recognition tools for smoother user experience. However, the highlight of the device is the 8-megapixel pop-up selfie camera which reveals itself when you activate the front camera on the camera app. The motorized action makes it one of the most futuristic implementations yet.
Alongside Nex and Nex S, Vivo is also introducing its own AI assistant Jovi, which can be activated via a dedicted button. The Vivo Nex features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor while the Nex S gets third-generation in-display fingerprint sensor. Both the devices will be available in diamond black and ruby red color when they go on sale.
