South Korean giant Samsung on Tuesday launched its flagship phone Galaxy S9 and S9 plus in India. With these new devices, Samsung is betting high to beat the neck and neck competition in the Indian smartphone market.

For those who were expecting anything different in the new devices from the Galaxy series might get disappointed as the South Korean giant has not differentiated from the previous path.

The all-glass looks of Galaxy S9 and S9 plus would remind you of their twin predecessors, launched in 2017.

However, you would find some low-key changes at the rear side of the devices.

One of the striking features of the newly launched device is its camera. In fact, Samsung says that it had built its flagship phone Galaxy S9 around the innovative camera.

The S9 is the first smartphone with an aperture that would automatically flits from a f/1.5 to a f/2.4 aperture, depending upon the lighting, assuring good quality pictures even in low light.

The S9+ boasts of a dual camera – 12 MP + 12 MP.

“For the first time we have introduced a very high rate of slow motion capture video capability, which can capture 960 frames per second” said Asim Warsi, Samsung Global Vice President, Mobile Business at the India launch in New Delhi.

With S9, Samsung is still counting on the finger print sensor technology, but the good thing is that Samsung has been lending ear to the previous criticism, which resulted in the placement of fingerprint scanner in S9 and S9 plus just below the camera lens.

The display specifications for the S9 plus are 1440 x 2960 pixels / 529 PPI, which are same as S8. But the company says that the display in new phone is much brighter and vibrant.

Samsung has given the wireless charging in the newly launched devices but for the old-schools, option of charging with wire is also available.  The company has also stepped up the audio experience for its customers, Samsung has provided the AKG-tuned stereo speakers in the new phones, which would come handy especially when you binge watch videos on your phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 for the 64GB will be available for Rs 57,900 while the 256GB variant will be priced at Rs 64,900. The Galaxy S9+ will start at Rs 65,900 while the 256GB storage variant will retail for Rs 72,900.

Samsung has also partnered with various operators in the country to offer various tariff plans for users.
