Billionaire tycoon, Sir Richard Branson is set to order 10 supersonic jets from a manufacturer that call themselves Boom Technology. The new planes are the latest in affordable supersonic travel.

The new supersonic jets will reportedly be capable of flying at speeds of 1,451mph and reaching Tokyo from San Francisco in five hours, Los Angeles to Sydney in six hours and New York to London in three and a half hours. The company says they have planned itineraries of about 500 routes.

A prototype of the Boom jets is currently being built in a Colorado aircraft hangar by Blake Scholl, Boom Technology founder and former Amazon executive.

Once created, Boom will be able to seat 40 passengers, travel 2.6 times faster than other commercial planes and will fly at 60,000 feet to cut flight time.

According to Bloomberg, Scholl said, 'The idea is for a plane that goes faster than any other passenger plane built before,'

The company even managed to nab the expertises of record-breaking Astronaut, Scott Kelly to help craft the jet.

The firm said, 'Boom was founded on the philosophy that we need to overcome the challenges of supersonic passenger flight, not surrender to them.
