In today’s day and age, security is a popular topic of discussion. After a report emerging earlier this year of 135 million Aadhaar numbers going public, it now appears that data of 120 million Reliance Jio customers could be exposed.

First spotted by FoneArena, critical data of about 120 million Reliance Jio customers are seemingly exposed for everyone to see. At the time of filing this story, just about any Jio user’s data is visible on a website called magicapk. It does appear though that primarily data of old Jio customers could be vulnerable.

When we tried verifying Jio numbers on the site, it didn’t seem to throw up any details. However, on refreshing the page, it did show up information like First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, registered email address, telecom circle, and SIM activation date. Multiple users on Twitter have revealed that their information is visible on the website. Varun Krishnan from Fonearena told BGR India, ”I just had multiple users messaging me on twitter and also questioning me about how genuine this site was.” That’s what got his attention. He adds, “Luckily, Aadhaar is not showing up, but I found my own Jio numbers in the database.”

Effectively, if you have Jio numbers of a person, there is a high possibility you would be able to find his/her registered email address from the website. In an official statement, Jio said, “We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.”

The original was originally published on BGR.
