After the camera and battery mods, the time now is for a VR mod. Crunching standalone gadgets into a snap-on accessory is what makes Moto Mods novel and practical. Adding to its list of snap-on accessories, Motorola is reportedly working on a new ‘Virtual Viewer’ Moto Mod, which will help eliminate the need for a bulky headset.
As tweeted by serial tipster Evan Blass, the Virtual Viewer Mod appears like any other VR headset, but if we go by the Moto Mods architecture, it should allow you to simply snap on the mod to a compatible Moto Z smartphone and start exploring immersive content.
Blass tweeted renders of the purported mod from varied angles and going by those, the Virtual Viewer mod features a head strap and what looks like the case on the front to slide the phone in. It is unclear as to when the Moto Mod will be officially announced. Whether or not the renders reflect an actual product in-the-making, but it makes sense for the company to introduce a VR headset, which is actually a Mod, to counter those by Samsung and Google.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, Motorola added two new mods to its lineup for the Moto Z smartphones, including a slider QWERTY keyboard, and a monitor that tracks heart rate, blood pressure, and more. The mods were a result of an Indiegogo challenge by the company.
Meanwhile, the latest addition to its mod-friendly smartphone range is the Moto Z2 Force, which launched in India last month. The Moto Z2 force gets the famed ShatterShield Display technology for its 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED screen. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
For optics, there’s a dual-camera setup at the rear, with two 12-megapixel sensors in an RGB-plus-monochrome arrangement. Up front, there’s a 5-megapixel front camera. The smartphone is fueled by a 2,730mAh battery. It runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box, with Moto’s near-stock Android user interface and Moto Experience suite pre-loaded. The Moto Z2 Force is priced at Rs 34,999.
