Popular photo and video-sharing app Instagram announced its latest update, which permits users to post standalone texts as Insta Stories. Titled 'type mode', the company is offering a new way for users to share anything with creative text styles and backgrounds, without sharing a photo or video.

To use the new feature, a user can open the camera, where an option labeled "Type" will appear next to "Normal" under the record button. The user can then tap "Type" and write anything of their choice with different styles to change the look and feel. Users also have the leverage to pick different background colors, highlight words and phrases or add a background photo.

Apart from this, Instagram said the new styles can be used when adding text to any photo or video, and share as a story, which will have a span of 24 hours.

These updates, the company said, are available as part of Instagram version 30 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in Google Play.
