We are just a day away from the grand launch of Apple‘s new products, including a special edition iPhone. Ahead of the event, more details about the Apple Watch have emerged, thanks to the leaked iOS 11 GM, confirming support for LTE connection in the new smartwatch.

As is the case with the upcoming ‘iPhone X’ or the 10th anniversary special iPhone 8, the Apple Watch is also rumored to bring in a host of improvements and design changes, with the most noticeable being the possible support for a cellular connectivity. With LTE support, the Apple Watch will be capable of being a standalone device, independent of the iPhone.

Current models of the Apple Watch require it to be paired with the iPhone at all times for functioning. However, according to the leaked details, a screenshot shows the LTE signal strength indicator in the top left corner of the watch. This suggests the upcoming Apple Watch 3 or Apple Watch Series 3 will allow you to use an e-SIM, which basically means you will share the same phone number as your existing one.

LTE support will allow you to stream music or take a phone call right from the Apple Watch, all without the need for the paired iPhone to be in proximity. It is also worth mentioning that a report in past said that the smartwatch will not support independent calling, irrespective of the LTE support. It is understood that this support will be available for a specific model of the smartwatch, which will evidently make it slightly expensive as well.

Other than the long-rumored LTE support finally seeing evidence through the leaked documents, the upcoming smartwatch is also likely to receive a design upgrade. Based on the leaked setup screen, as acquired by 9to5Mac, the new Apple Watch will have a red crown to differentiate it from the older versions.

While most of these features are confirmed owing to the nature of the leaked documents, we can’t wait to see the official unveiling of all the new Apple products when Tim Cook takes to stage at the newly constructed Apple’s ‘spaceship’ campus in California. The Apple Special Event keynote will be live streamed on September 12 at 10 AM PDT (10:30PM IST). It will be the first-ever event at the Steve Jobs Theater.
