Apple will reportedly start using its own chips in Mac computers as soon as 2020, replacing processors by Intel.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the project is internally known as ‘Kalamata’ and is still in its early developmental stages. After the news broke out, Intel’s stock price took a hit. Bloomberg estimates that Apple provides approximately 5 percent of the chipmaker’s annual revenue.

This move will also make Apple’s devices, such as iPhone, Macs, iPads work more seamlessly together. Also, moving to its own chips inside Macs would let the company release new models on its own timelines.

At the moment, Apple is reportedly working a new foldable iPhone, which might be unveiled in 2020. Bank of America Merrill Lynch has stated that the smartphone maker is working with its Asian partners on a foldable device which will be able to open up and be used like an iPad tablet.

It should be noted that this isn’t the first time that rumours regarding a foldable device have surfaced online. Previously, reports suggested that Apple was working with LG Display to build a foldable iPhone. Apple has also filed a patent last year in which the company proposed to make an iPhone which can open and close like a book.

Recently, reports stated that the company was reportedly designing and producing its own displays in a secret manufacturing facility near its California headquarters. According to a report by Bloomberg, the tech giant is making a significant investment in the development of next-generation microLED screens.

Unlike current OLED screens, the new screens will use different light-emitting compounds, which will make future gadgets, ‘slimmer, brighter and less power-hungry.’ At the moment, the iPhone X is Apple’s first phone which uses an OLED display. According to previous reports, Apple had placed an order for 70 million displays from Samsung for use in the iPhone 8.
