Amazon has now patented a reality mirror that will let you try on clothes virtually, to see what they would look like, while placing you in a virtual reality location.

The patent explains, “When the user views the mirror, the user sees a reflection from the mirror of illuminated objects in the scene and the transmitted images from the display device through the mirror, the transmitted images being perceived as part of the reflected scene.”

The display is said to rely on a system of cameras, projectors, displays, mirrors and lights that will add layers of pixels to your moving image on a real-time basis. The Verge explained that the imagined mirror works by scanning the environment to generate a virtual model, and then identifies the face and eyes of the user to determine which objects are to be seen as a reflection.

In the past, Amazon has acquired Body Labs, which uses computer vision to create a more accurate 3D avatar, for gaming and clothes modeling. This would fit correctly into a ‘reality mirror’ product strategy too. Of course, not all patented ideas have turned into products. At the moment, we can take this news, with a pinch of salt.

Recently, global giants Amazon and Microsoft, who had announced a partnership in August 2017 to integrate Alexa and Cortana digital assistants, are yet to roll out their smart assistant partnership. The companies had said that the cross-platform features would be made available by the end of 2017, but they are yet to announce the same.

While Microsoft and Amazon had formed a close partnership, founder and chief executive officer, Amazon, Jeff Bezos had also welcomed Apple and Google to offer similar integration, saying that he would support it. "There are going to be multiple successful intelligent agents, each with access to different sets of data and with different specialized skill areas," Bezos had said in a press statement.
