The idea was to make him win the title when the WWE toured India, but the writers scrapped the idea

WWE Champion Jinder Mahal retained his title by defeating number one contender Shinsuke Nakamura at WWE Hell in the Cell on Sunday.
In a closely fought contest, primarily because Mahal’s allies, the Singh brothers were barred from ringside, both competitors went tooth and nail, but in the end it was the Modern Day Maharaja who reigned supreme.
Towards the end of the match, Nakamura cornered Mahal with a knee to his gut. The Japanese was inching closer to a win as he landed his finishing move- The Kinshasa on Mahal’s head. However, Mahal’s allies- the Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh) distracted the referee to give Mahal enough time to recover.
Mahal was brought back to the ring by Nakamura while trying to flee through the crowds. However, Mahal dodged Nakamura’s Kinshasa and implanted –The Khallas. The referee counted three and Mahal retained his WWE Champion.
Interestingly, many sites have reported that Nakamura was scheduled to win the bout, with Mahal reportedly scheduled to retain his title when the WWE toured India late this year. However, as per a SportsKeeda report, WWE shelved that idea.
