'We are with you': Football clubs, players stand united with Barcelona after terrorist attack

The footbaling community joined the world in sending thoughts and prayers to victims of the terror attack in Barcelona.

At least one person died and 32 were injured after a van ploughed into crowds in Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas tourist area on Thursday. The vehicle sped along the pedestrianised area, mowing down people and sending others fleeing for cover in shops and cafes. The police later said that it was a terrorist attack.

People all over the world expressed their shock and sadness over the events. The footbaling community also joined the world in sending thoughts and prayers to victims and their families.

The city's very own FC Barcelona expressed their thoughts over the incident, saying they were "deeply saddened by the attack" on their city.    

FC Bareclona's La Liga rivals Real Madrid also released a statement.

It read, "Real Madrid C. F. would like to express its deepest sorrow regarding the attack which has taken place in the city of Barcelona and the club stands together with the victims, their families and their friends. It also hopes for the quickest possible recovery to all those injured in the incident."

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ranaldo was one of the first footballers to tweet and express his solidarity with people of the Catalan city.  Ronaldo wrote in Portuguese that he was "dismayed by the news arriving from Barcelona" and gave his "full support and solidarity with the family and friends of the victims."

Other current and former players tweeted about the tragedy.

French club PSG wrote, "we are with you.​"

English club Manchester City and Liverpool FC also expressed their grief over the news of the attack.
