Watch: WWE honours Dara Singh, inducts legendary Indian wrestler in 2018 Hall of Fame

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) honoured Indian wrestler Dara Singh on Friday night (Saturday morning in India). The legendary Indian, also know as Rustam-e-Hind, was inducted in the Hall of Fame 2018 at glittering Hall of Fame ceremony. The WWEHOF ceremony took place just two days before the Wrestlemania 34 event.

WWE’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony this year was yet another moment where superstars from yesteryears took their rightful spots in WWE’s hallowed hall. The class of 2018 had a glittering alumnus which included Bill Goldberg, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, The Dudley Boyz, Hillbilly Jim, Mark Henry and Kid Rock in the celebrity wing.

Dara Singh was given a place in the Hall of Fame 2018 class “Legacy Wing”. The category honours the legends in the field of WWE all over the world. 

Other legendary wrestlers included in the Hall of Fame’s Legacy Wing list included former WWWF Champion Stan Stasiak, Lord Alfred Hayes, Cora Combs, El Santo, Jim Londos, Rufus J. Jones, Sputnik Monroe and Boris Malenko.

Dara Singh was India's most legendary wrestler and a pioneer in making wrestling a household name in India. Dara Singh defeated the WWE Hall of Famer Lou Thesz and won the World Championship in 1968. Dara Singh also faced off against the father of Japanese pro-wrestling, Rikidozan. He is well known for his bout against King Kong too. 

However, Dara Singh gained height of his polularity after playing Lord Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan in 1986. He also had a successful stint in Bollywood and Indian television industry. He starred in many Hindi movies such as Faulad, Mard, Mera Naam Joker, Jab We Met, Sultana Daku, Anand, Daku Mangal Singh and Dharmatma. 

Singh wrestled internationally from the 1940's through 1983, when he retired. He was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996. He passed away in 2012.
