Test cricket is not only going to be priority for India players but also make them the highest earners.

During a meeting with India captain Virat Kohli, his predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Ravi Shastri, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) accepted the demand for a pay hike for the team. It is understood that the Test players will be rewarded with a 100 per cent hike or more.

During the meeting, it was also requested by the team management that Future Tours Programme (FTP) should be planned in such a way that there are enough rest days between two series.

DNA has also learnt that Kohli and company want the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to finish early so as to give them a good resting period before the tough five-Test series against England in the summer.

It is learnt that Kohli wants his team to land in England at least two weeks in advance before the start of the long tour.

COA chief Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji along with BCCI CEO Rahul Johri were present during the discussion where players' contracts post September expiry came up for discussion.

Rai indicated after the meeting that the players demand for the pay-hike has been accepted by the board.

"The principles on which compensation package has to be structured, that has been agreed to. It's only a question of numbers now. We will now match the revenue with compensation that each player receives," said Rai.

Currently, Grade A players get Rs two crore annually, Grade B players are paid Rs one crore each and Grade C members are paid Rs 50 lakh per year.

Those who make it to the playing XI of a Test are paid a match fee of Rs 15 lakh, while those who play ODI and T20 are paid Rs six lakh and Rs three lakh, respectively. Others in the squad are paid half these amounts.

During his tenure, former coach Anil Kumble had proposed that Grade A players get Rs 5 crore annually as against the Rs 2 crore they were being paid.

Follow Lodha suggestions

The other big take away from the meeting is concerns raised by Kohli and Co with respect to scheduling of the matches.

It has been learnt that the players pointed to the recommendations made by the Justice Lodha panel, which suggests a 15-day gap between any two series.

The players are also said to have stressed on the need to include as many practice matches as possible.

BCCI maintained that all these concerns would be taken into account while finalising the FTPs. As of now, the team will only get a two-day break after the series against Sri Lanka and before taking a flight to South Africa in the last week of December.

After the South Africa tour, the Indian team head to Sri Lanka for a T20 tri-series involving the hosts and Bangladesh as a part of the Island Nation's Independence Day celebrations.

The IPL follows the tri-series with England tour set to begin some time in July. The team is in favour of a short break before this tough tour.
