North Korea and South Korea are interested in a joint march at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics as well as fielding unified teams in different sports, the president of the International Olympic Committee said on Friday.

"Following the bilateral conversations we had yesterday, we are taking note that both are very much interested in having some joined actions in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with a joined march and some unified teams in different sports," Bach said at the start of a meeting between the IOC and North and South Korean officials in Lausanne.

According to Lee Kee-Heung, head of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the focus of the meeting was on sports in which the Koreas will have unified teams in Tokyo.

"In addition to these four, we also discussed joint teams in table tennis and handball," Lee said. "The IOC's stance is that as long as the Koreans reach an agreement in other sports two months before the Olympic spots are determined, it will be open to more joint teams. The IOC is hoping to see more unified Korean teams."
