World number one tennis player and the strongest contender for Wimbledon 2018, Roger Federer, ventured into the tougher terrains of Swiss Alps to film for the latest episode of the survivalist series Running Wild with Bear Grylls.

The eyes that are used to seeing his athletic avatar of headbands, polo shirts, shorts and tennis shoes; the eyes that see the tennis racquet as an extension of his lean body, are in for a surprise.

The show will air in the US on Sunday but they shot for it in February 2017 right after Federer picked up the Australian Open trophy thus beginning a remarkable comeback year that saw him reach the 20-Grand-Slam milestone.

Federer took to Facebook to share the images from his adventure with the host. The duo went rappelling down a frozen waterfall, they looked for food in a frozen ravine, and Federer ate a raw fish eyeball!

The video of his adventure trip also revealed what his hands have been through of all these years on the tennis courts. The calluses on his hands, formed after holding the racquets day in and day out, are strikingly visible.

"I'm most excited to go into the wild with Bear because he knows what he is doing, I'm just gonna follow his lead, and then maybe eat something crazy, maybe do something I would never think I would do," said Federer in a promotional clip.

"I believe it shows to people another side to the person people know, with me, they may see this very focused tennis player who never cracks on the pressure and it's nonsense.

"At the end of the day we are all the same, we all have our fears and I am very scared of many things especially when it comes to doing something adventurous," he continued.

Federer revealed that he would not go for the base jump or skydiving because he fears getting hurt or getting lost. 'I am just a normal guy who likes to do normal things besides playing tennis," he concluded.

For a normal guy, doing normal things besides playing tennis, Federer has a millions-strong fandom and it melted quicker than ice on a hot summer day when the father of four posted five images chronicling his adventurous day out.

That unkempt, scruffy look was a novelty for many of them, including yours truly. The comments below the post were encouraging, supportive and appreciative of the new avatar.

Watching Federer on this adventure should more than makeup for the lull of Middle Sunday on Wimbledon.
