After silvers at the Rio Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu finally broke the 'final jinx' when she defeated Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the showdown of BWF World Tour Final 21-19, 21-17 on Sunday.

Reacting to the historic victory, Sindhu said, "I feel happy and I have no words. This is my first win this year. Among all the finals I have played, won or loss, this will be the most memorable of the lot because I think it was good game, I'm really proud of it and I think I have ended the year on a very beautiful note. I would like to thank each and every one for their support and love and the fans here in Guangzhou have been fantastic. I would also like to thank mu coaches, physios and my sponsors."

After losing several finals over the last couple of years, there had been on a constant question that haunted her everywhere - "why do you lose all the finals?" However, the 23-year-old very proudly said that the question will never return to her from here on.

"Somewhere people have been asking the same question, I think the question again won't come to me, asking, 'why all the time coming to the finals and losing in the finals,' but in fact I would say now that 'I won a gold and I;m really proud of it,'" Sindhu said.

When asked about the tournament, Sindhu said, "In 2016, I lost the semi-final, last year I was runner's up but this time I'm the winner so it's definitely a beautiful tournament for me because I did not lose any match, there were long rallies and I'm glad we won it."

Sindhu became the first ever Indian to win the season-ending championship. Previously, former world number one Saina Nehwal had made it to the finals of the tournament but could not register a win. Sindhu too had reached the final of the World Tour Finals, last year, but had returned without the title.
